Africana Studies is Vassar’s longest-running multidisciplinary program. It has been at the heart of transforming the curriculum and broadening the intellectual and social experience of students, faculty, and administrators for four decades. Vassar Library. Both Professor Cody and Routledge see the book as a companion piece to critical literature, the first of its kind published in this field, as well as a companion to future syllabi at Vassar and elsewhere in the field of Performance Studies, though it will also prove useful for the instruction of English, Theater History, Critical Theory. The Urban Studies Program is designed as a multidisciplinary concentration in the study of cities and urbanization. Students examine the development of cities and their surrounding regions; the role of cities in the history of civilization; the social problems of urban life; the design of the built environment; and past and present efforts at planning for the future of urban societies.
Dean Alamo joined the faculty in the Department of Sociology at Vassar in with expertise in Caribbean Studies and has developed courses on Race and Popular Culture, Latinx Studies, America in the World, and Racial Borderlands.
